A Final Reflection

• What have I learnt in this module?
I learned that there are elements and principles necessary for design, and I was impressed to learn that these laws apply to the art I have seen so far. By analyzing several paintings based on the design principles, I learned about the color composition, object placement, balance, etc. within a painting. I think I will be able to use these things when I create things in the future.
• What did I enjoy the most?
What was fun was sketching and thinking about the idea in Task 2. Because at that stage I didn't have to think about difficult things like how to reproduce it, I was able to think of ideas based on my curiosity and just wanted to express something like that.
• What did I not enjoy the most?
I was creating the final design based on the sketch. I created the idea without much thought, so it was a difficult task to recreate it. Furthermore, the poster I chose was a movie poster and had a realistic expression, so it took a long time with my drawing skills.
• What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I often ended up cutting into my sleep because I prioritized what I wanted to do, such as coming up with an idea, the time it would take to recreate it, and setting the time I could allocate to production in my daily life. I learned that planning is important not only in art, but in everything.
• What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
In this production, I tried using various brushes when drawing the poster. In the paint software I usually use, I only used normal brushes. (Because that is enough for the work I usually do.) In addition, I forgot my pen tablet, which I usually use when creating designs on a PC, in Japan, so the production was extremely difficult. Therefore, this time I solved the problem by using a mouse and trying about 20 types of brushes that I had never used before. In other words, I realized that sometimes it is good to abandon the methods that have been successful so far and try something different. What did not change was my drawing skill. I think I need to practice more.
• What are my aspirations?
Don't give up immediately if I can't do something, but try to make it work with what I have.

IDEAS
I started with this sketch. I especially wanted to try to express lightning.
I found it difficult to position the flame lines no matter what I did, so I decided to express it by composing it as if it were drifting.
I combined them to determine the general composition.

I still wanted to keep the gradation of the sky, so I used the drift idea and adjusted the placement of each object to create a sense of it.
