TIME FRAME: WEEK 06 - WEEK 09
DEADLINE: WEEK 10

DESCRIPTION:
After time exploring media and learning about information design, you will now develop an infographic that presents a series of different processes as visuals rather than text.

REQUIREMENT:
Your main intention is to analyse the “delivery mechanism’s” that affect the outcomes of your infographics. Though content is important, however the aim of this presentation is too look at what makes an infographic presentation work or does not work. This includes content but only as one of the many components of an infographic:

PART 1: Infographic poster (20%)
INSTRUCTION:
1. Choose 1 infographic poster design (that is not well design) from Internet
2. Redesign the poster into A4 size. Sketch the idea and process (5 Marks)
3. Redesign and simplify the poster based on visual hierarchy & typography (5 Marks)
4. Simplify the poster's design based on color, shape & pattern (5 Marks)
5. Attach your final poster on E-Portfolio with explanation and reflective writing (5 Marks)

PART 2: Minimal animated infographic (20%)
INSTRUCTION:
1. Animate your infographic poster into one static loop animation page
2. Loop duration in between 15 - 30 second
3. Size: 1080 x 1920 px (Vertical Video) upload to your own Youtube channel

Example of loop animation poster:

2. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c3/31/1e/c3311e940662cc1710108bed89b2d827.gif (this is for animation reference only. Typography is required)

SUBMISSION:
1. Digital upload into your Google Drive.
2. Online posts in your E-Portfolio and your reflective writing.
(Please attach the E-Portfolio link here for submission.)

MARK: 40%

Part 1 : Infographic poster (20%)

The poster I chose

Fig 1.1 Subtle design poster

I am going to redesign this poster to add more information and make it easier to read.

 Story Board

1.1 product Goal: While retaining the information from the original poster as the main topic, more detailed information is added to make it easier to understand.

1.2 Story: Continuing the theme of the console wars, I will compile data for each console and design it to be easier to compare.

Proposed revisions for each topic: Gaming population, Gamer age group and gender ratio will be treated as one piece of information. Change the graph from a pie chart to a melting pot graph.

Game play rate: Change from American standard notation to a global scale.

Number of consoles sold worldwide: This information is from an older era, so we will redesign it based on modern information.

Best-selling consoles of all time: Announce the best-selling ones, but also in a ranking format.

 1.3 Sketch

                                            Fig 2.1 Sketch

The layout of the poster is designed to fill the gaps, and the object designs have been redesigned based on the swords and HP bars that appear in the game, as well as the message windows that are common in old games.

                                  Fig 2.3reference2

                                  Fig 2.4reference3

For the design of the objects, we base it on the above design and add ingenuity such as frames, pixel-like designs, or making sales figures look like HP bars.

1.4 Background, object design

                           Fig 2.5 Background

I wanted the background to look like an 8-bit universe, so I drew stars with the pen tool on a black background and then used a mosaic filter to recreate it.

                           Fig 2.6 Title Design

I also used a pixelated effect to match the 8-bit universe in the background, and I wanted the letters to look like they were from a game, so I used a beveled and embossed effect on the letters.

Fig 2.7 Adding and Layouting Objects

I also arranged the 8-bit processed objects in a sketch-like layout. Now I'm going to add some information and do the final edits.

                   Fig 2.8 Redesigned population distribution

                       Fig 2.9 Earth Design

By making it a melting pot graph, I was able to successfully combine the ratio of males and females playing the game and the player population by age group into one chart. I wanted the design of the globe to have an 8-bit feel, so I drew an ellipse, spread the world map on top of it using the warp function, and covered it with a clipping mask. After that, I created a boundary line to make the outline easier to see, and placed a message window-style box behind it to prevent the outline from disappearing with the black background.

 Final Design: Project 1 Poster

           Fig 3.1 Final Design

The poster was completed by writing information on the objects I designed and laid out. I think it turned out exactly as I imagined it when I was sketching in my notebook. It has an overall retro feel, while retaining the information from the original poster, and I was able to write new information in the space created by reorganizing the layout. Finally, I'd like to compare it side by side with the original poster.

Animated Objects

               Fig 4.1 Animated Object

The five items above will be animated this time. First, we added animations that make the sword and crown glow. Next, we added a movement that makes the bar that shows the number of copies sold of the game recover HP. The Earth rotates 360 degrees. The UFO at the bottom of the poster is hard to see, but it flashes.I also learned that animations such as rotation and image transformation are possible once the object is converted into a smart object.

 Self Reflection

I think the production went very smoothly because I learned how to use Photoshop in other modules. When making the animation, even moving one object was very difficult, probably because my PC's specs were insufficient. The PC froze many times, but I was glad that I managed to complete the animation. During the production process, I had several ideas about what I would like to make next, and in addition to the assignments, I also edited photos and created moving wallpapers, so I am very satisfied that this class has given me the opportunity to do more. I have made several works with paper and markers, but as I learned how to use Photoshop, I felt that the possibilities were expanding. I would like to make many works and practice before I forget this experience.
